These iPadOS 16 features will come only on M1 iPads
Apple announced its next-generation operating system for iPads at WWDC 2022 event on June 6. The iPadOS 16 brings several new features such as revamped lock screen, notifications, improved multitasking and more.
However, not all the iPadOS 16 features will be available to every Apple iPad out there. Some features are exclusive to iPads that are powered by the company’s own M1 chip. This includes iPad Pro 11.1-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch and iPad Air.
Here’s a list of all the features that will only arrive on M1 iPads.
Stage Manager is a new multitasking feature borrowed from macOS. The feature is exclusive for M1 powered iPads. The Stage Manager feature allows users to multitask better with a new sneak peek window on the left side of the screen where users can tap each window to maximise.
In addition, it also includes overlapping windows, resizing, Center app and more.
External display support for M1 iPad
External display support is another important feature of iPadOS 16. This allows M1 iPad users to power a proper external display to maximise the screen estate. According to Apple, iPad with an M1 chip can support external displays with up to 6K resolution.
12.9-inch iPad Pro exclusive features
Even if you own an iPad that’s powered by an M1 chip, you won’t be getting every single feature of the iPadOS 16 as Apple has introduced some exclusive features — Reference Mode and Reference Mode with Sidecar — for the biggest iPad.
Virtual Memory Swap: Available only on iPad Air 4 and iPad Pro M1
Select iPad users can now expand the available memory by up to 16GB virtually.
