Man arrested for stabbing person over 40 times at Burnt Store Marina

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — One man is facing attempted second-degree murder charges after the Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) said he attempted to behead someone using a knife and scissors.

“You say he stabbed someone forty times,” that’s the reaction from Edmond Clarke’s neighbor Stephen Kindem.

Edmond Clarke is the suspect accused of stabbing a victim over 40 times. It was all caught on camera in The Trading Post at Burnt Store Marina. You can see Edmond Clarke, in a dark blue shirt grabbing a pair of scissors before the video pauses.

That is when LCSO said Clarke attacked the man to his right.

“I read something in an email that came from the community just a little while ago and didn’t think much of it, especially since it wasn’t very detailed,” Kindem said.

But Burnt Store Marina residents like Stephen Kindem had no idea it was this gruesome.

LCSO said Clarke eventually grabbed a bread knife from the kitchen. The attack went on for a few minutes.

“That, I just can’t believe it from what I know of Edmond,” Kindem said.

The victim’s family said his name is Tom.

And this was not a random attack.

Clarke worked for the family for ten years as Tom’s fathers caregiver. And neighbors knew them well.

“Edmond was Jack Goslins caregiver,” Kindem said.

He said when he is in town he and Edmond go together to The Trading Post for happy hour.

“I’m just shocked, I’m totally shocked,” Kindem said. “You know, you always hear that afterward but people are normally surprised and I really am.”

Edmond Clarke is now facing second-degree murder charges. As for the victim, he is still alive but currently undergoing surgery.
