Letter: Iowa moving in right direction | Opinion
Every two years we hear the most important election ever will be this November. Probably truer than ever this year.
It comes down to this. Do you want to keep moving forward or do you want to return to the tax and spend policies of the Democrats? They claim the Republicans cut spending on education. Facts. While there was a cut to funding for community colleges, K–12 education — 42% of our $7 billion budget — received a 1% increase.
The last real decrease in spending on education was by Chet Culver, a Democrat, with a Democrat-controlled legislature. Democrats are using the same old scare tactics, claiming people are dying due to our Medicaid programs. I don’t think they can show any proof of this. Fact. Thousands of unborn babies (people) are slaughtered every year with the full support of the Democrats.
Consider this: We have a balanced budget and don’t spend more than we take in. We have a budget surplus, which should help add funding to education next year. There are tax cuts, a good thing for everyone. We have historically low unemployment. We are among the top ranked states in management and education. We were named the number one state in the nation overall.

All of these things point to Iowa moving in the right direction. The Democrats want to change that direction and will if elected.
Fred Hubbell actually said Iowa is not the best state to live in. I suppose as a Democrat he would prefer Illinois.
