GOP should support Mueller investigation | Opinion
For the last 50 years, Republicans have committed themselves to the rule of law and to the constitution, and we should continue to do so. We know an independent judiciary system is critical to a successful democracy and judicial processes play an important role in defending American law and order. Special Counsel Robert Mueller has dedicated his career to upholding the constitution. He has continued his steadfast commitment to America’s justice system during his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
To reject due process and a fair and independent investigation would mean Republicans have turned our backs on the constitution and the institutions that uphold it. As the party that has always stood for the rule of law, firing Mueller will have a lasting, negative effect on Republicans. We would lose our credibility as the party of the constitution.
It is our responsibility, as Republicans, to protect Mueller’s investigation and ensure he finishes it unobstructed. It is imperative we stand for the rule of law and hold true to our values. We must do what is right and support Sen. Chuck Grassley’s efforts to advance the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act, which would protect Mueller and let him finish his investigation without interruption.
