Everblades drop game 3 of the Kelly Cup Finals

ESTERO, Fla. — After taking care of business on the road and winning two straight in Toledo, the Florida Everblades lost game three at home against the Toledo Walleye and lead the Kelly Cup Finals 2-1.

A walleye jumped out to an early two to nothing lead after the first period. The chances were there for the Everblades, however, Toledo goalie, Billy Christopoulos, stopped everything the Blades threw at him.

The chances were there in the second period with captain John McCarron scoring what most in the building thought was the Blades’ first goal.

However, upon further review, the shot deflected off the crossbar and out resulting in no goal. A few minutes after, the Walleye hit the back breaker with a short-handed breakaway goal from Marcus Vela.

The Everblades did break up the shutout with less than three minutes left in the game as Levko Koper finally solved Christopoulos, but the Walleye would get a fourth goal and their second empty netter of the night to secure a 4-1 win.

“Listen they are a very talented team and we cannot give them as many chances as we did because they can finish, and on the flip side, I think our shot selection in traffic in front of it was not where it needed to be while we probably did have more chances,” head coach Brad Ralph said.

The Everblades will now do their best to reset and have a short memory. The team will host games four and five beginning on Friday with puck drop coming up at 7:30.

“It’s the finals you know, it’s a roller coaster of emotions, so it is on us to respond. It is on us to, you know, believe in what we are doing and get the job done on Friday,” Coach Ralph said.
