JAMMU: The Border Security Force troops along the international border (IB) fired at a drone coming from the Pakistani side early on Thursday morning and forced it to retreat.
SPS Sandhu, DIG BSF, said: “Today morning, about 4.15am, a blinking light, suspected to be that of a drone, was observed in the Arnia area. The suspected drone was hovering about 300 metres above the ground. Alert BSF troops fired at it, due to which it retreated. The area has been cordoned and searches are going on in the area.”
The incident was reported just before the scheduled two-day visit of President Ramnath Kovind to Jammu, who is to address the annual convocation of IIM, Jammu.
Two day ago, on June 7, the J&K police foiled an attempt to smuggle explosives through drones by recovering three magnetic IEDs, fitted with timers, drone-dropped in the border area of Jammu district.
Prior to this, on May 29 police shot down one drone, with a payload, in Rajbagh area of Kathua district and recovered 7 magnetic bombs and 7 UBGL grenades.
On May 14, BSF troops in the Arnia sector fired at a drone coming from the Pakistani side and forced it to return back.
On May 7, BSF opened fire at a Pakistani drone in the same area shortly after it entered the Indian territory but it managed to fly back.
