Bengaluru: MLA Aravind Limbavali’s daughter trades words with cops after car stopped | Bengaluru News

BENGALURU: Chaos prevailed near a hotel on Raj Bhavan Road on Thursday evening when the daughter of BJP MLA Aravind Limbavali in a BMW car, allegedly driven rashly, traded words with traffic cops after they flagged down the vehicle and insisted that pending fines of Rs 10,000 for 13 traffic violation involving the vehicle be cleared.
The 2020 model car (K03-NH0909) is registered in the name of M/s RD Build Tech Developers.
Trouble began around 5.15pm when traffic cops flagged down the BMW, coming from Queen’s Road next to KSCA stadium and entered Raj Bhavan Road at Minsk Square. By then, the vehicle had overtaken a police officer’s vehicle near Anil Kumble Circle and other motorists had complained about it to policemen along the route. There were two women and two men, all in their 20s, in the car.
One woman alighted and sought an explanation from police who said they stopped the vehicle for jumping the signal. They showed her information on their mobile phone: there were 13 cases booked against the car and fines had not been paid. Seven cases were for wrong parking and six were for jumping traffic signals. Wrong parking draws a fine of Rs 1,000 while jumping signal penalty is Rs 500.
The woman argued the vehicle was flagged down only because it had overtaken the ACP’s jeep. The crew of a few TV channels in front of Raj Bhavan began filming the incident. The footage went viral on social media. The woman arguing was later identifed as Renuka Limbavali.
Asked about overtaking the police jeep, she shouts: “Will you book a case for overtaking an ACP’s car? This is an MLA’s car.” When a cop says the car overtook the jeep rashly from the left, she says: “We did not drive rashly. Will you file a case for overtaking a police vehicle?”
Asked who the MLA is, she says: “Aravind Limbavali is the MLA, he is my father. Allow us to go home, you cannot book a case for overtaking.” Police tell her they’re duty bound to seize any vehicle with more than three cases pending and the owner can take it only after paying the fine. She says: “You send people to my home and I will pay the fine.”
Meanwhile, she also shouts at the cameraman of a local TV channel and obstructs him from shooting the incident. “Who are you? Who sent you here? Shut the camera, shut it off now…,” she screams in English at the cameraman and rains a few punches on the camera.
She then walks back to the car and gets into the driver’s seat. Police direct her to pay the unpaid fines.
“I don’t have money now and please send someone home. I will pay the fine,” she tells the policemen. Cops tell her she can make the payment online too.
One man in the car pays the fine using his bank card and receives the receipt before she drives away. Police said the receipt had been issued to Tarun.
