12-year-old arrested for threatening Cape Coral middle school over Snapchat

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A 12-year-old middle school student was arrested for making a school threat to Diplomat Middle School, located at 1039 NE 16th Terrace, via Snapchat.

According to the Cape Coral Police Department (CCPD), A’Niyah Harris posted a Snapchat on Sep. 20 brandishing a light-colored “machine-gun” style weapon with the wording, “imma shoot up the school tmr”.

CCPD investigators then went to Harris’s residence and she admitted to sending the photo, according to the report. The report also stated, Harris said the gun shown in the photo was a fake “blaster” gun and was broken.

CCPD said Harris told investigators the threats were a joke. Investigators also found a gray and orange SplatRball gun at the residence.

Harris was transported to Lee County Jail and charged with written or electronic threats to kill or conduct a mass shooting.
